I realize this is totally simple. But I posted it to 'maybe' put the idea back into your head; It is so simple, so you should really do it!
We colored so many pieces of macaroni for this craft that I can probably make an entire line of jewelry. I took some of my large jars and filled them with different types of macaroni, (i prefer the shorter pieces for the kids) tossed in as much food coloring drops as we wanted. After you've added enough drops to make awesome, vibrant colors, pour in; very sparingly enough rubbing alcohol to just about cover the bottom of the jar.
Shake, Shake, and shake some more. Leave it alone and then shake. Pretty much until the macaroni is the desired color. Lay out the macaroni on a towel over night, and by morning- or afternoon they will be dry enough to string on some yarn.
I am proud to say I wore my all green 'roni necklace pretty often, that is until we went to a farm and a kitten nibbled away a bunch of it. He didn't eat them- don't worry!
